On a splendid morning, the air was filled with anticipation and gratitude, where the echo of “third call” marked the beginning of a special ceremony. October 10, 2023, is not just any day; it marks the 25th anniversary of the first Taco Palenque branch in McAllen, a symbol of the cuisine of the great Rio Grande Valley.

Ruben Vela, affectionately known as “the one who lights the candle”, took the microphone to offer a welcome. The occasion was made even more special because the day before, the city declared October 10 as “Taco Palenque Day”, and a resounding applause filled the air.

As part of the event, Monsignor Juan Nicolao and Father Oliver Ángel were invited to share some words and blessings for the branch. With a touch of humor, Monsignor Nicolao mentioned that visiting Taco Palenque at least once a week is almost a sacred rite. But beyond the humor, he highlighted the importance of work and how Taco Palenque has provided employment to countless families, allowing them to support themselves.

The mood was festive, but also deeply grateful. The appreciation focused not only on the brand and the delicious tacos, but also on the people behind it. From the kitchen staff, cleaners, managers, cashiers to the founding family: the Ochoa family.

Mr. Juan Francisco Ochoa Jr., president of Grupo Palenque, shared emotional words, acknowledging the work of his father Don Pancho, the founder of the concept and other gastronomic ventures. With emotion, he announced that his daughter María José is about to open her own Taco Palenque in Austin, bringing the family legacy to a new generation.

A special moment was when Enedelia Lozano, a loyal employee who has been with the company since before its opening, was recognized for her 25 years of service.

The ceremony culminated with a ribbon-cutting, symbolizing not just a 25-year journey, but also the promise of many more to come. Laughter, applause, and Mariachi music filled the air as attendees prepared to enjoy a grand celebration and, of course, delicious tacos. In summary, this 25th anniversary of Taco Palenque in McAllen is not just a celebration of food and business success, but a festivity of collective effort, community, and a legacy that continues to grow. Congratulations, Taco Palenque! May the successes and tacos continue!
