EDINBURG, Texas – The Region One Education Service Center (ESC) Gifted and Talented Program is hosting a two-day summer learning experience dedicated to enhancing research skills and studying wildlife at the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center. Participants may register to attend on June 19 and 20 (Workshop #266057) or June 21 and 22 (Workshop #266060).
National Geographic Explorer Kelly Koller will lead students in conducting a scientific research experiment by exploring the Edinburg wetlands and examining observations and findings with lab equipment. By engaging in hands-on learning with an experienced educator and renowned explorer, students will maximize their research capabilities and prepare themselves for advanced high school science classes.
National Geographic Explorers are exceptional individuals in their fields who seek to build a community reflecting diversity through their work in science, exploration, education and storytelling. They promote the Explorer Mindset, a National Geographic value that encourages innovation and leadership.
Koller is an education leader that empowers learners through engaging and inclusive research experiences. In addition to her work with National Geographic, Koller is an experienced educator with over 15 years of experience as a teacher and Gifted and Talented specialist.

About the Region One Gifted and Talented Program:
The Region One ESC Gifted and Talented Program provides all members of the educational community with research-based professional learning opportunities. Sessions enable school systems to meet state requirements delineated in the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students. Educators also have an opportunity to receive up-to-date information provided by the Texas Education Agency as they collaborate and network through our quarterly Gifted and Talented Coordinator meetings.
