MCALLEN, TX (October 13, 2016) – South Texas College Theatre kicks off their seventh season this month with its production of Jethro Compton’s adaptation of Dorothy M. Johnson’s short story The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
The production will run from Oct. 20-22 at 8 p.m., and will include a matinee at 2 p.m. on Oct. 23. Performances will take place at STC’s Copper Center for Communication Arts Black Box Studio Theatre located at 1301 W. Pecan Blvd. in McAllen.
Set in the Wild West in 1890, a young scholar from New York City in search of a new life arrives beaten and half dead on the dusty streets of Two Trees. Upon being rescued, the town soon becomes his home, and a local girl begins to give him purpose. But is it enough to save him from the vicious outlaw who wants him dead?
The protagonist must make a daunting choice. Does he turn and run, or does he stand for what he believes in. Does he live, or does he fight to become the man who shot Liberty Valance?
General admission tickets cost $5. The play contains strong language and mature themes. Parental discretion is advised. The Oct. 23 production will be interpreted in American sign language.
