McAllen, Texas (April 4,2017) — South Texas College presents its annual event dedicated to helping current and prospective students shape their career pathways with regards to higher education.

The 5th annual Pursuing Higher Education Fair will take place on Tuesday, April 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at STC’s Mid-Valley Campus Pavilion, located near building A.

“The fair is a community event aimed at creating a college going culture,” said Dr. Rainlilly Elizondo-Weber, faculty with STC’s Department of History and coordinator of the annual event. “We also have various student services present as well as four year institutions present, so if you’re just starting out with STC, it’s a great fair because not only can you find out about admissions and financial aid in one stop, but you can go to another table and find out about the various jobs you can do with a certain major.”

This year’s event will have at least 40 tables meant to help current and prospective students register and learn about services available, as well as assistance with selecting a major or possible careers.

Four year universities scheduled to be in attendance include Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Tech, Texas A&M-College of Nursing, UTSA, Texas State University, UTRGV, Stephen F. Austin, Our Lady of the Lake, Texas A&M International, Texas A&M-College Station, University of Houston-Victoria, and Texas A&M McAllen Bachelor of Science in Public Health Program.

“If you are close to graduation, we will have representatives from the four years schools who will be on hand to help, and talk about the process of transferring to their school,” Elizondo said. “Services will be there to let students or potential students know what is available to them and help them get around the college so they will succeed during their time earning a degree.”

Current students, prospective students, high schools, and the public in general are all invited to attend. Those seeking more information can contact Rainlilly Elizondo-Weber PhD at relizondo17@southtexascollege.edu or 956-973-7618.
