STC Honors Retiring Faculty at Ceremony

McAllen, Texas – South Texas College hosted a retirement ceremony to celebrate nine faculty members who collectively served over 150 years while working for the college.

The purpose of the ceremony was to celebrate and recognize each retiring faculty member as well as all their accomplishments.

Dr. Anahid Petrosian, Chief Academic Officer for STC, says the ceremony provides an opportunity to recognize faculty accomplishments and their contribution to the College and our community.

 “Faculty members at South Texas College are the foundation of our great institution, and their commitment to student success provides a lasting legacy of educational advancement in our community,” Petrosian said. “By embracing innovative teaching, exhibiting life-long learning, and committing to college and community service, faculty personify the College’s commitment to excellence. They are true champions of student success.”

Associate Professor of Biology, Diane K. Teter, says her experience at STC has been memorable thanks to her exceptional students.

 “My experience at STC has been wonderful. I was a professor for 23 years and I have had superior students,” said Teter. “STC is such a great place to teach.”

Instructional Coach for Professional and Organizational Development, Jessica Galloso, says the ceremony recognized the commitment and contributions of the retired STC faculty members.

“We really wanted to connect the faculty and how they’ve helped us embody the college’s mission and core values,” said Galloso. “We wanted to recognize not only their leadership in the college but their service and contributions.”

Retiring faculty and their years of service, by Division, are as follows: Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Division – Kenna S. Giffin, 9 years; Patricia A. Blaine, 13 years; Rogerio J. Zapata, 14 years; and Theresa Norman, 22 years; Math, Science and Bachelor Programs – Diane K. Teter, 23 years; Joel P. Salinger, 10 years; Oscar A. Plaza, 16 years; and Rafael M. Chavarria, 22 years; Nursing and Allied Health Division – Daphine Mora 23 years.

South Texas College is honored to recognize these faculty members for their hard work and dedication to the College, its students, and the community.
