RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas— A tragic helicopter crash on March 8, 2024, claimed the lives of two soldiers and U.S. Border Patrol Agent Christopher Luna from the Rio Grande City Station during a Southwest border support mission in partnership with Department of Defense. Another soldier was injured in the incident.
The men and women of the Rio Grande Valley Sector are mourning the loss of Border Patrol Agent Luna who had more than 17 years in the U.S. Border Patrol. A thorough investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
“This tragic event highlights the inherent risks faced by Border Patrol Agents every day and it reminds us of their courage and sacrifice. We mourn the loss of our brother Chris and we will honor him with dedication and distinction. Our focus is now with his family and the agents of RGC who displayed great courage and acts of heroism in attempting to save those involved in this tragic event,” said Gloria I.
