VALLEYWIDE, TX – This is an important announcement to businesses, organizations and church groups wishing to “self-deploy” and transport hurricane relief directly to the Texas Gulf Coast.
As we transition into the recovery phase, donations management is at a critical point where if not done correctly, it can cause a “second disaster” placing people in danger and overwhelming affected areas.
Mass care representatives at the Texas State Operations Center, headquartered with the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin, are recommending that self-deployments originating from the Rio Grande Valley are to be coordinated with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley. The Food Bank RGV is coordinating with representatives of Feeding America, Feeding Texas, Texas food banks, local American Red Cross, local Salvation Army and the Texas State Operations Center in identifying locations to deliver products to the community in need and those communities that are able to receive product.
Your safety is our priority and we want to ensure the prevention of self-deployments to sites still deemed unsafe due to hazardous conditions.
If your community is conducting donations drives and would like delivery locations, please contact the Food Bank RGV for further information. Call Omar I. Rodriguez at (956) 227-2665 or email at: omarir@foodbankrgv.com (leave a voicemail if line is busy). They will assist and coordinate support to ensure that donated goods that your community provided gets the right location, safely.
