EDINBURG, Texas – After nearly three decades of dedicated service on the bench, State District Judge Rose Guerra Reyna has announced that she will not seek re-election at the end of her current term. Judge Reyna has presided over the 206th Judicial District Court since January 1, 1999. She has never faced an opponent in her judicial career after winning her first election, a testament to the respect and confidence she has earned from the legal community and the public. Judge Reyna is the longest serving female district judge in Hidalgo County.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Hidalgo County, Texas as a district court judge,” said Judge Reyna. “When I was first elected, I could not have imagined the journey ahead – one filled with challenges, growth and the privilege of ensuring justice is served. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me and for the opportunity to uphold the law with fairness and integrity.”
Throughout her tenure, Judge Reyna has been known for her commitment to justice, her fairness in the courtroom and her dedication to improving the legal system. She has presided over thousands of cases, mentored young attorneys, and implemented initiatives aimed at improving judicial efficiency and access to justice.
“While this decision was not an easy one, I believe the time is right to step away and allow a new generation of leadership to continue serving our community. I encourage anyone interested in being a public servant as a district court judge to run. It is the opportunity of a lifetime,” she added.
The deadline for anyone to file to run is December 2025.
“I look forward to the next chapter of my life, confident that the court will remain in capable hands,” said Judge Reyna.
Judge Reyna’s term will conclude on December 31, 2026, and she will continue to fulfill her judicial duties until that time. She extends her heartfelt thanks to her family, colleagues, court staff, attorneys, and the citizens of Hidalgo County, Texas for their unwavering support.
