RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas – The Starr County Industrial Foundation (SCIF) is proud to announce a special celebration marking its 50th anniversary of dedication to economic growth and community development in Starr County. The event will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 6-9 p.m. at the Julabe Reception Center #2 in Rio Grande City.
Founded in 1974, the Starr County Industrial Foundation has played a vital role in shaping the economic landscape of the region by attracting employers, providing critical support to small businesses, and fostering a diverse and robust economic environment. Over the past five decades, SCIF has facilitated the creation of thousands of jobs, spurred economic investment, and played an instrumental role in transforming Starr County into a thriving community.
“Celebrating 50 years of service to our region is an incredible milestone, and we are honored to reflect on all that has been achieved thanks to the hard work and dedication of countless individuals and organizations,” said Rose Benavidez, President of SCIF. “Our mission has always been to create sustainable economic opportunities for Starr County, and we look forward to continuing this important work in the years to come.”
Since its founding, SCIF has worked tirelessly to create a sound, controlled environment that encourages both local entrepreneurship and the growth of diverse industries. The organization has helped secure key investments, facilitated workforce development programs, and collaborated with public and private partners to enhance the region’s infrastructure. As part of its mission, the SCIF attracted the very first movie theater, millions in retail investments, healthcare initiatives that helped secure new facilities, logistics, renewable energy, and has been a leader in the area of mobility, higher education and workforce development as well as advocacy aimed at providing support and resources for small business owners and local startups.
“We are proud to be a part of such a dynamic and resilient community,” said Sam Vale, Chair of the SCIF Board. “As we celebrate this momentous occasion, we are excited to honor those who have been with us every step of the way and continue to work together to create even more opportunities for the future.”
The event promises to be an evening of reflection, celebration, and forward-looking optimism as SCIF sets its sights on the next chapter of economic development in Starr County.
