Art is alive at Laredo College! Our institution invites the public to witness a collaborative art exhibit opening its doors on Thursday, April 21, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the LC Martha Fenstermaker Memorial Visual Arts Gallery inside the Visual and Performing Arts Center that is located at our Ft. McIntosh campus.

LC brings these works of art in collaboration with Cultivarte Laredo, a non-profit organization transforming the community through art by providing resources for artists in the border region. The exhibit showcases different contemporary pieces from seven talented local artists. The gallery will be featuring paintings, ceramic pieces, video and an audio visual installation. Artists include Allan Gindic, Carlos Grajeda, Noël Heller, Shellee Laurent, Lizett Montiel, Pedro Morales and Cristina Zorrilla Speer.

The exhibit’s title is “Reflective Fluctuations,” which showcases the artists’ observations reflecting abstract representations of expressive narratives. The artwork will allow attendees to conceive new memories.

“We invite the audience to cultivate their own ideas and to reimagine how art exists,” Cultivarte Laredo Executive Director Maritza Bautista said. “It creates spaces within all of us to reimagine or reflect and connect with conversations that declare the artist’s presence.”

Bautista is also an experienced artist and educator that leads the organization to reach its mission to provide resources and support for local artists. She had the honor to be the curator for this interesting exhibit.

LC is thrilled to have such talented artists showcase their work at our gallery. The exhibit will run from April 21 through August 11. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Admission is free and open to the public. Health and safety protocols will be in place. The use of face masks is highly recommended.
