The Texas Capitol, Austin  – On the heels of service on a similar committee created during the 2013 special legislative sessions, House Speaker Joe Straus today appointed State Representative Sergio Muñoz, Jr. to the House Select Committee on Transportation Funding, Expenditures and Finance.

The committee is tasked with examination of a variety of transportation issues, such as the reliability of current funding sources, the use of debt in transportation funding , state highway funds, and Texas Department of Transportation appropriations.  Speaker Straus identified transportation and other infrastructure issues as critically important in light of Texas’ rapid growth and economic success.

“I am honored to be named to this Select Committee.  Transportation financing is a critical issue and is tied directly to the health of our economy,” said Muñoz.  “The work and strategies we will develop in this committee will spur economic activity, especially here in the Rio Grande Valley where recent action has created the new UT RGV and medical school, and retail and certain segments of the agricultural economy are booming.”
