GAINS INSURANCE AND LOCAL & CONSENT CALENDAR COMMITTEES
AUSTIN –State Representative R.D. “Bobby” Guerra (D-McAllen) has been re-appointed to serve on the House Committee of Public Health by Speaker of the Texas House Joe Straus. In addition, Rep Guerra’s new appointments include Insurance and Local and Consent Calendar committees.
The following committees will have jurisdictions over matters pertaining to their industries: House Committee on Public Health examines the adequacy of the primary care workforce in Texas, addresses geographic disparities and makes recommendations to increase patient access to primary care. The Insurance Committee examines all insurance companies and any organization that writes or issues policies in Texas. Local and Consent Calendars is a procedural committee that examines local bills affecting a specific geographical area of Texas. Committee members are selected at the sole discretion of the Speaker.
Rep. Guerra thanks Speaker Straus for his appointments, noting his re-appointment to Public Health was based on his seniority. With Rep. Guerra sitting on Public Health, Insurance and Local and Consent Calendars, he will be able to address issues and concerns that impact the Rio Grande Valley and Texans across the state. Rep. Guerra looks forward to working with Madame Chair Myra Crownover, Chairman John Frullo, and Madame Chair Senfronia Thompson as well as the other members of all three committees towards a successful 84th Legislative Session.
“I am pleased that the Speaker granted my request and placed me on committees where I can best serve my constituents in District 41. I am honored to continue working alongside my colleagues towards our common goal of a successful session. I am eager to get back to work and make a meaningful contribution to the great state of Texas, “stated Guerra.
