MERCEDES, Texas – Graduation ceremonies for the four South Texas Independent School District (STISD) high schools will take place Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19, at the Bert Ogden Arena, located at 4900 S I-69 C in Edinburg. Listed below are the dates and times for each campus “Walk of Honor” Graduation ceremony.
STISD Science Academy (Mercedes): Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. |
STISD Medical Professions (Olmito): Saturday, May 18, at 1 p.m. |
STISD Health Professions (Mercedes): Sunday, May 19, at 10 a.m. |
STISD World Scholars (Edinburg): Sunday, May 19, at 1 p.m. |
STISD also proudly announces the 2024 valedictorians and salutatorians for the district’s four high schools, including South Texas ISD Health Professions (Health Professions) in Mercedes, South Texas ISD Medical Professions (Medical Professions) in Olmito, South Texas ISD Science Academy (Science Academy) in Mercedes, and South Texas ISD World Scholars (World Scholars) in Edinburg.
The STISD valedictorians are Alfia Bilal of Health Professions, Leonardo Zuñiga Duarte of Medical Professions, David Hovey of Science Academy, and Leo Yu of World Scholars.
Bilal of Edinburg will attend Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, in the fall, where she will major in molecular biology.
Zuñiga Duarte of Brownsville will attend Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, on a full ride scholarship where he will double major in molecular and cellular biology and chemistry.
Hovey of Edinburg will attend Princeton University to pursue a degree in mathematics.
Yu of Edinburg will attend Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, where he will pursue a major in biology and a minor in psychology.
The STISD salutatorians are Danielle Arispe of Health Professions, Anjali Pisharodi of Medical Professions, Mateo Boyer-Paulet of Science Academy, and Viena Prinkey-Vizcarra of World Scholars.
Arispe of Donna will attend Rice University in Houston, where she will study biosciences.
Pisharodi of Brownsville will attend The University of Texas at Austin, where she will pursue a degree in neuroscience with a certificate in engineering.
Boyer-Paulet of Weslaco will attend Texas A&M University in College Station, where he will major in biomedical engineering as part of the Engineering to Medicine, E2EnMed program with Texas A&M and the EnMed school of medicine in Houston.
Prinkey-Vizcarra of Edinburg will also attend Texas A&M University in College Station, where she will major in biomedical science.
STISD is comprised of four magnet high schools – South Texas ISD Health Professions, South Texas ISD Medical Professions, South Texas ISD Science Academy, and South Texas ISD World Scholars– as well as two middle schools – South Texas ISD Preparatory Academy and South Texas ISD Rising Scholars Academy – and one virtual campus that includes middle and high school – South Texas ISD Virtual Academy.
