Edinburg, Texas, June 3, The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (4-2-4) will host San Antonio FC (2-4-4) for the first time this year this Saturday, June 4 at UTRGV at 7:30p.m. This will be the third encounter between the two teams.
The Toros are coming off a 1-1 draw against Saint Louis FC at World Wide Technology Soccer Park on Sunday, May 29. After going scoreless in the first half, Rio Grande Valley’s Jose Escalante opened the scoring on the 69th minute. Jose “Memo” Rodriguez placed a beautiful through ball that split the defenders. Escalante gained control of the ball and juked the goalkeeper to push the ball into the net. Saint Louis FC would bring the game even at the 76th minute. Irvin Herrera shot a beautiful curling ball that left the Toros’ goalkeeper, Callum Irving with no possibility.
San Antonio’s last game was on the Wednesday, May 25 clash between the two Texas teams. The match went scoreless thanks to extraordinary performances by both goalkeepers. Rio Grande Valley’s Calle Brown had five saves while San Antonio’s Josh Ford had six saves.
After Saturday’s game, Rio Grande Valley will travel to face Swope Park Rangers before hosting Oklahoma City Energy FC on June 11. San Antonio FC will hit the road to face Portland Timbers 2.
