MCALLEN, TX (February 6 2017) – The Business and Technology (BT) Division at South Texas College will be holding a career fair to inform the Mid-Valley community about the quality of educational opportunities and dynamic industry pathways available in their programs. The career fair will take place on Thursday, Feb. 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., and will include informational booths as well as breakout sessions for students from local school districts and adults looking to jumpstart their careers.
Business & Technology Departments scheduled to be in attendance at the career fair include a wide range of programs and degree options available at South Texas College, including Welding, Automotive and Diesel Technology, Heating, Ventilation, A/C and Refrigeration (HVAC&R), Electrician Technology, Architectural and Engineering Design Technology, Police Academy, Fire Science, Culinary Arts, Information Technology, Construction, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Office Administration, Paralegal, and Computer and Advanced Technology.
Breakout sessions will include demonstrations from Culinary Arts students and faculty, and a unique forensic activity organized by Accounting faculty. Students will have the chance to test their skills, attempting to spot fraud by looking at the books of a fictitious company. Additional breakout sessions will provide insight into Architectural and Engineering Design Technology and Human Resource Management careers along with information on Bachelor degree options at South Texas College.
“There are a wealth of different degree options and career pathways in the division of Business and Technology,” said Juan Resendez, Business and Technology Division Coordinator – Mid-Valley Campus. “The different programs here represent very dynamic industries with fantastic opportunities for our students.
“We want students from the Mid-Valley area to take advantage of these opportunities, develop their skill sets, and prepare themselves to be the next wave of industry leaders in our region,” Resendez said.
“We are here to meet the needs of our community, local business and industry leaders by providing them with graduates that have the right skills to help them be successful in their enterprises,” said Mario Reyna, Dean of Business and Technology. “At the same time our students can have the opportunity to meet with industry professionals so they can see the quality of our students who can be hired in the future.”
