EDINBURG, TX – The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce announced it will continue to participate in the Small Business COVID-19 Rapid Testing Program. Since December 2020, 21 small businesses have kept their frontline workers and customers safe.

By participating in this program, “local business owners can rest assured that their establishments can operate safely by keeping their employees healthy and safe from COVID-19” said Ronnie Larralde, Executive Director at the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce.

In an attempt to support the continued operation of small businesses throughout Texas, Governor Abbott initiated a program to provide chamber of commerce with BinaxNow rapid COVID-19 tests to distribute to small businesses.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) will continue to distribute these kits to the Edinburg Chamber to further the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19.

To participate in the program participants must complete online training on proper testing protocols, including test administration and reporting of results as required by law.

The participating business will have to identify staff members to be trained to administer the tests and report the results and determine the manner in which the voluntary testing will be conducted for their employees. All employees being tested must consent to test. Testing must not be a condition of employment. Businesses are responsible for establishing policies to address positive COVID-19 employee test results, including notifying local health departments.

Each kit contains 40 self-administered tests. Once the kit has been 70% completed the business is eligible to receive an additional testing kit.
