EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Border Patrol agents interdicted five narcotics smuggling attempts resulting in the seizure of approximately 1,000 pounds of marijuana and 158 pounds of cocaine.
Yesterday afternoon, agents assigned to the Brownsville Border Patrol Station observed three subjects walking north from the Rio Grande with three bundles of narcotics. The agents immediately responded and apprehended two subjects, later determined to be nationals of Mexico illegally present in the United States. Agents also seized three bundles of narcotics. The third subject was observed going back south into Mexico. The two subjects and three bundles were transported to the Brownsville Border Patrol Station. The marijuana weighs over 73 pounds and is valued at almost $59K.
Later in the evening, an agent assigned to the RGC Border Patrol Station observed suspicious activity near the Rio Grande in Rio Grande City, Texas. The agent advised that a vehicle was driving south towards several subjects with bundles of narcotics. Agents interdicted the smuggling attempt, which resulted in the apprehension of the driver and a passenger, along with the seizure of a vehicle and seven bundles of narcotics. The marijuana weighs nearly 580 pounds and is worth more than $463K.
Early this morning, RGC agents working near La Grulla, Texas observed eight individuals with bundles traveling away from the Rio Grande. As RGC agents approached the area, the subjects abandoned the narcotics and absconded south towards Mexico. The interdiction resulted in the apprehension of one Mexican citizen and the seizure of six bundles of marijuana. The marijuana weighs 349 pounds and is valued at approximately $280K.
Also, yesterday, agents at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint seized a bundle of marijuana that weighed over 29 pounds worth more than $23K, and over 158 pounds of cocaine valued at more than $5M.
The narcotics seized was turned over to the investigative authorities.
