Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra To Be Sworn into Office January 1st

EDINBURG, TEXAS –  Citizens of Hidalgo County can expect to be in familiar and safe hands in the upcoming year as J.E. “Eddie” Guerra takes the official oath of office, beginning his first full term as Hidalgo County Sheriff. The swearing in ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Facility at (701 El Cibolo Rd, Edinburg, Texas).

Sheriff Guerra will be sworn in by County Court-at-Law # 4 Judge Fred Garza. After being sworn into office, Sheriff Guerra will in turn deliver the oath of office to his more than 485 deputies.

With more than twenty years of experience in law enforcement, Guerra’s duty to serve and protect the people of Hidalgo County as Sheriff has been met with high standards, gaining the attention of both state and local government leaders. Guerra is responsible for implementing policies that have a proven record of success, including leading the Texas Transnational Intelligence Center, working in conjunction with the District Attorney to save millions of taxpayers’ dollars, and implementing more technology as a way of added security to the courthouse, to name a few.

Guerra was appointed Sheriff in 2014 by Hidalgo County Commissioners Court, and was elected into office in November 2014 to fill the unexpired term of the previous officeholder. In November 2016, the citizens of Hidalgo County overwhelmingly reaffirmed their confidence in Guerra, re-electing him as Sheriff with more than 73% of the vote. Prior to role as Sheriff, Guerra served as the Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Constable where he worked on several projects with ICE Homeland Security Investigations, The Texas Attorney General’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and Edinburg CISD.

“It has been an honor to serve the people of Hidalgo County in my career. I look forward to continuing serving as Sheriff and ensuring that our Hidalgo County families are kept safe and protected,” said Guerra.

Sheriff Guerra has been married to his wife, Norma for 26 years. She is an educator at Edinburg CISD. Together they have children: triplets Krystianna, Andres, Laryssa, 23; and Miguel, 20. The Guerra family attends St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Linn.
