Raymondville native Shan Rankin, who has served as executive director of the Museum of South Texas History since 1989, was honored with a resolution in Commissioners Court for her committed service to the community.
“Thank you for having me here today,” said Rankin. “I am proud to be recognized by your court.”
During her tenure, the museum served thousands of visitors and local citizens, completed multiple expansions, and changed its name to Museum of South Texas History to better reflect its mission to preserve and present the borderland heritage of South Texas and northeastern Mexico.
One of Rankin’s many accomplishments includes securing accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums.
She has served as an appointed member of the Hidalgo County Historical Commission, board member of the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation, and countless other endeavors.
“Throughout the years serving as director of the museum, you have been our strongest ally,” said Rankin. “I hope the relationship continues as I hand over the reins to Dr. Francisco Guajardo.”
The county congratulates Rankin for 30 years of outstanding, dedicated, and committed service and wishes her continued success.
