Seven PSJA Early College HS Students commit to College Music Programs

SAN JUAN – Seven PSJA Early College High School Seniors signed a letter of intent to join music programs at their respective higher education institutions of their choice. The students signed on May 20 at their school, joined by their family, friends, and teachers.

Congratulations to: 

DeeAphanie Bazan who will be attending St. Mary’s University in the fall. She will be part of the Rattler Wind Ensemble and plans to major in Biochemistry. She graduated with an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from South Texas College this past weekend. She received numerous scholarships, including one from the PSJA Education Foundation. She is graduating under the Distinguished Level of Achievement with Collegiate Honors (DLACH).

Paul Gutierrez has been a part of the PSJA Family since pre-kinder. Now he will be graduating with 50+ college credits, core complete, and with Honors. He is a member of National Honor Society and a section leader in the Band. He will be attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and plans to major in Music Education. His goal is to become a band director, just like those who taught him everything he knows and have inspired him to pursue this career.

Marina Rodriguez is a proud recipient of the Dell Foundation and the PSJA Education Foundation Scholarship. Marina is ranked eleven from her graduating class and graduated with an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from South Texas College with a 4.0. She will be also be attending St. Mary’s University this fall and plans to major in Political Science. While at St. Mary’s she will be part of the Jazz Orchestra Ensemble.

Rebecca Sanchez has been part of the PSJA Family since the start of her education. She will be graduating with 62 college hours, and an Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from South Texas College. She is core complete, graduating under the Distinguished Level of Achievement with Collegiate Honors (DLACH), and a member of the National Honor Society. She has also been a part of the Mighty Bear Band Leadership Team for 3 years, which has made a big impact on her music career. She will be attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley this upcoming fall and plans to major in Music Education.

Isaiah Silva has been a part of the PSJA family throughout his educational journey. He is graduating with 20+ college hours from South Texas College. He plans on attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and major in Music Education with a minor in Voice.

Jose Vela is the recipient of the Texas State Academic Achievement Award, Pharr Breakfast Kiwanis Scholarship, Pharr Rotary Scholarship, and the PSJA Education Foundation Scholarship. He plans on attending Texas State University to major in Music Education.

David Peña has been part of the PSJA Family since he started school and will graduate with 40+ hours of core college credit from South Texas College. He will attend The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where he plans to major in Computer Science, and minor in Music. He will be a part of the UTRGV Pep Band Ensemble.
