Sergio Contreras was recently appointed as President/CEO of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership. The RGV Partnership is a community minded organization, where business leaders advocate for regional collaboration and economic prosperity along the Rio Grande Valley.
Mr. Contreras served as Executive Director of the Pharr Economic Development Corporation where he worked closely with EDC Board of Directors to help drive economic prosperity for the community.
Mr. Contreras worked close to 20 years at AT&T as Regional Manager of External Affairs, where he was responsible for the company’s initiatives in San Antonio and Rio Grande Valley: the South Texas border region. In his position, Mr. Contreras worked closely with elected officials to advocate for policies that helped drive innovative technology solutions to the community. Mr. Contreras was also responsible for maintaining communication between the AT&T Foundation and local non-profit organizations.
Mr. Contreras was raised in the Rio Grande Valley, graduating from PSJA in 1991, Westmar University in Iowa in 1995 and UTPA-MBA Program in 2014.
Mr. Contreras, he has been extensively involved and active with several key organizations in South Texas; currently serving as a Board of Director of the Border Trade Alliance and the PSJA ISD Education Foundation.s
Mr. Contreras is past-chair of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership and served as a Board of Director with the Laredo Chamber of Commerce, Laredo Workforce Solutions – South Texas, Brownsville Chamber of Commerce, Harlingen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, San Antonio Hispanic Chamber, West San Antonio Chamber, Alamo/San Juan Boys and Girls Club and was appointed as Parliamentarian for the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce. Mr. Contreras served on the Advisory Committee of TMC (formerly Texas Migrant Council) and ENCORE (Engaging Communities for College Readiness) and the Texas Border Coalition.
