AUSTIN, TX — Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa announced that the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) voted today to award a $500,000 grant to Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 for the Raymondville Drain Project. This grant, made possible through a rider in the state budget, brings the total funding for the project from this rider to $13.1 million. Total state of Texas support for this project is now $20.1 million.

The Raymondville Drain Project, developed by Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 in collaboration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Galveston District, aims to create a comprehensive drainage channel system spanning approximately 60 miles. By providing an alternate drainage conveyance for Hidalgo County and improving drainage conveyance for northern Willacy County during major storm events, this project will significantly enhance public safety and reduce property loss.
