Senator Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“I appreciate the bravery and quick response from McAllen Police officers and security personnel to the attempted robbery at La Plaza Mall.
This incident is a reminder that no community is immune to these types of situations. We must be alert at all times and provide law enforcement with information of any suspicious behavior or activity. I encourage all Texas residents to download the iWatchTexas app on their smartphone to report such activity.” Â
To prevent ongoing or future criminal activity, the Texas Department of Public Safety developed and recently launched the iWatchTexas mobile app. A report using this app usually takes fewer than five minutes to complete, and once submitted, each confidential report is reviewed by law enforcement analysts. Preparations for crime, terrorist attacks, and threats to community centers or schools may often be seen but not reported. The purpose of this app is to make it easier for the public to report suspicious activity or behaviors. For emergencies or if you are in immediate danger, please call 911.
