EDINBURG, Texas – The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library has earned the 2025 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association, marking the library’s sixteenth consecutive year receiving this prestigious statewide honor.
The award celebrates the library’s consistent commitment to outstanding service and innovative programs that enrich the Edinburg community. In its application, the library highlighted numerous initiatives, including outreach to underserved populations; partnerships with community organizations; literacy programs for all ages; digital inclusion efforts such as public internet access; workforce development support; diverse cultural and educational programming; and professional development opportunities for staff.
Out of 545 public library systems across Texas, the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library was one of just 101 libraries to receive the 2025 distinction, placing it in the top 20 percent of public libraries statewide.
“We are proud to continue providing innovative programs and services that meet the evolving needs of our community,” said Letty Leija, Library and Cultural Arts Director. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff and the support of our community as we work to make the library a welcoming space for learning, creativity, and connection.”
This recognition underscores the library’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for Edinburg residents through forward-thinking and responsive services.
