BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA – U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon kicked off her Returning Education to the States Tour in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She joined Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley, Senator Bill Cassidy, and Congresswoman Julia Letlow to hear more about the state’s success in improving literacy scores.

During her visit, Secretary McMahon toured and participated in a literacy roundtable at Jefferson Terrace Academy, a public Pre-K-8th grade school. She also toured Great Hearts Harveston, a K-9th grade charter school.

“The primary goal of the Returning Education to the States Tour is to engage directly with those closest to students to learn what practices are making a real impact and to identify areas where improvement is needed,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon. “Louisiana stood out as a rare bright spot in this year’s national reading scores and serves as a model of what’s possible when states prioritize innovation and put students first. I look forward to sharing what I have learned from talking with teachers, families, and local leaders in Louisiana with the states I will visit on my tour.”

“Louisiana is proud to host Secretary McMahon as she highlights the critical work of removing red tape from the classroom and returning education to the states,” said Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley. “Our historic academic gains prove that a back-to-basics approach and trusting teachers lead to stronger student outcomes.”
