McAllen, TX–Dr. James Ponce, Superintendant of MISD, will speak about the proposed $297 million bond issue as well as the 9 candidates for the contested seats on the school board at the McAllen Citizens League’s noon lunch meeting on Thursday, March 26. The League meets at the Salvation Army Center on 23rd street and Pecan in McAllen.
“We have extended this meeting to 1:30 pm in order to accommodate the bond issue and all candidates”, said Christopher Julian, President of the League. “Dr. Ponce will start the meeting with a 15-20 minute presentation on the Bond Issue. Then each of the 9 candidates will have 2 minute opening comments followed by questions from League members only”, Julian explained.
Candidates speaking at this meeting include; Place 1 Marco Suarez, Enedelia “Ennie” Olivarez, Dalinda “Dolly” Gonzalez Alcantar, Maricruz Del Villar Abbott, Place 2 Conrado “Ito” Alvarado, Don Delaney, Hilda Garza DeShazo, Place 4 Erica de la Garza-Lopez, Tony Forina. Daniel Vela is uncontested for Place 5 and therefore will not speak.
