Jason E. Schneider has been appointed as the Acting Chief Patrol Agent for the U.S. Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector, officially replacing Gloria I. Chavez. CBP’s formal account on X now lists Schneider’s title as “(Acting) Chief Patrol Agent” for the sector.

According to CBP’s official channels, the leadership transition was reflected publicly via the sector’s social media profiles. Schneider’s appointment was first announced via an X post on August 1, 2025, and confirmed by local reporting on August 2, 2025, which stated: “Jason E. Schneider is the new acting chief patrol agent for the U.S. Border Patrol RGV Sector, replacing Gloria Chavez”. As of about 6:59 p.m. that evening, the RGV Sector’s X account showed only Schneider’s name and title, with Chavez’s profile information removed.

Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott issued an official statement addressing the leadership change: “CBP does not comment on specific disciplinary actions. We will continue to adhere to our core values: integrity is our cornerstone. The highest ethical and moral principles guide us. Our actions must bring honor to ourselves and our agency. Misconduct—on or off duty—by a few distracts from the honorable service of the many.” The statement did not mention Chavez by name or explain the circumstances behind her departure.

Gloria Chavez had served as Chief Patrol Agent since October 2022 and was notably the first woman to hold that position in the Rio Grande Valley Sector. Local coverage emphasized the abruptness of her removal, noting that her name and picture were deleted from the RGV Sector social media without any accompanying explanation.

Little information is publicly available about Schneider’s prior assignments or professional background. CBP has not provided details regarding his career history, strategic plans for the sector, or objectives under his acting leadership.

At present, it remains unclear whether Schneider’s appointment reflects a routine personnel change, a response to performance evaluations, or is tied to previous internal reviews. CBP’s policy of not commenting on potential disciplinary matters—combined with no agency-issued rationale for the leadership shift—has left the motivations surrounding the transition unaddressed.

Acting Chief Schneider now assumes command of the Rio Grande Valley Sector, a region covering hundreds of miles along the U.S.–Mexico border and one of the busiest operational areas in the country. Observers await further updates, including potential CBP releases, oversight committee hearings, or inspector general findings, to shed light on the nature of the leadership change.
