CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Today, Angela Burton, district director for the SBA’s Lower Rio Grande Valley District, announced two staff additions to the Lower Rio Grande Valley District team and invites Coastal Bend small businesses, lenders and stakeholders to a virtual meet and greet on Thursday, July 30 at 10:00 a.m.

“We are extremely pleased Monica Stuber and Mary Afuso have joined our hardworking team at the Corpus Christi Branch Office. Their knowledge and experience will help further the SBA’s mission to support small businesses via access to capital, entrepreneurial education, growth through federal contracting opportunities, and our disaster recovery funding programs,” Burton said.

Stuber will lead the branch as the Corpus Christi Branch Manager with over ten years of experience in business development.  Before her branch manager appointment, she served as the program coordinator for Del Mar College’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC). During her tenor at the SBDC, she successfully coordinated more than 140 business seminars annually to facilitate growth, expansion, profitability, and improved management for entrepreneurs.

“Small business owners place a tremendous amount of dedication, hard work, and risk to pursue their dreams and enrich our communities,” Stuber said. “I am honored to be able to support and serve our entrepreneurs by joining the U.S. Small Business Administration to help small businesses start, grow, expand, and recover.”

Afuso will serve as an Outreach and Marketing Specialist.  She will promote SBA programs to small businesses and budding entrepreneurs.  Her previous work experience includes workforce development and continuing education programs.  She spent 13 years at Del Mar College as Director of Corporate Services. She generated more than $15 million in revenue for the college and was recognized for best practices by the Texas Administrators of Continuing Education.

“I’m excited to connect Coastal Bend small businesses with the SBA resources,” Afuso said.

The community is invited to a virtual meet and greet hosted by SCORE Corpus Christi to meet the new CCBO staff and learn about SBA’s products and services.  The virtual event is on Thursday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m.
