HARLINGEN – The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Lower Rio Grande Valley District is now accepting nominations for its 2019 National Small Business Week and District Awards. Since 1963, National Small Business Week has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses for their contributions to their local communities and to the nation’s economy. National Small Business Week will be celebrated May 5th to May 11th, 2019.
“During National Small Business Week, the Lower Rio Grande Valley Office recognizes high achievers, honors the importance of small business ownership and recognizes model entrepreneurs whose enterprises contribute to the commercial prosperity of the area,” Angela R. Burton, District Director stated. “Some of our past winners started with nothing more than a dream and a strong desire to succeed.” Any individual or organization dedicated to the support of the small business community in the United States may submit national or district office nominations or businesses may self-nominate for the following awards:
National SBA Awards
- Small Business Person of the Year
- Small Business Exporter of the Year
- Federal Procurement Award – 8(a) Graduate of the Year
Forms, criteria, and guidelines for submitting national award nominations are available at www.sba.gov/nsbw. All national nominations must be submitted no later than 2 p.m. CT, Jan. 9, 2019.
District Office Awards
- Young Entrepreneur of the Year
- Family-Owned Business of the Year
- Home-Based Business of the Year
- Minority Owned Small Business of the Year
- Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year
- Women Owned Small Business of the Year
- Rural Owned Small Business of the Year

All nomination packages must be hand delivered or mailed to the Lower Rio Grande Valley District Office or Corpus Christi Branch Office. Email submissions of SBA Awards forms will not be accepted as they contain personally identifiable information (PII).
