Community leaders join forces to organize outreach trip
The 85th Legislative session is about to begin. Please join the efforts of community leaders for a legislative trip to Austin on February 7, 2017 to meet with elected officials and share our region’s legislative agenda. Representatives from McAllen, Edinburg Brownsville, Weslaco, Pharr, Harlingen, Rio Grande City, UTRGV, South Texas College, Texas A&M, RSTEC and others are busy organizing Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Day in Austin, a one-day legislative outreach trip to the Capitol.
RGV Day in Austin provides residents, community and business leaders, as well as corporate citizens the opportunity to visit the state capitol and better understand the legislative process. Join us for a day of events at our State Capitol, which include resolutions on the senate and house floors, a luncheon with our local legislators at the Sheraton Capitol Hotel, visits with all 181 legislators and an evening wine & hors d’oeuvres reception in the Legislative Conference Center located at the Capitol.
Our participating communities and organizations strive to be the voice for local businesses in the state policymaking process. Our impact is even greater when we join efforts to demonstrate to elected officials that businesses large and small, educators, citizens and community leaders in the Rio Grande Valley care about the issues that impact our organizations, our cities and our business communities.
The delegation leaves from McAllen the morning of Tuesday, February 7, to arrive in Austin and return to McAllen on Wednesday, February 8. The goal is to show our elected officials that our area is engaged in the legislative process and passionate about our agenda items.
