The McAllen Chamber of Commerce and Santa Fe Steakhouse are busy finalizing details for the highly anticipated Wine Classic, scheduled for the end of this month. So many details must be paid attention to, but the reality is the event is for the benefit of none other than McAllen ISD students. For 10 years, through the proceeds of the Wine Classic, Santa Fe Steakhouse and the McAllen Chamber award scholarships and so much more to McAllen ISD students. Last year, the Chamber awarded $30,000 in scholarships and to other student related causes.
In the past 18 years, the Chamber and other generous businesses, with the help of Bob Boggus who was responsible for the Chamber’s scholarship program inception, the Chamber has awarded over $1 million to McAllen ISD students. Now with the Santa Fe Steakhouse Wine Classic, the Chamber continues to recognize some of the most deserving young members of our community. “Our hope is that these students will continue to excel wherever they decide to attend college, then return to McAllen and make a difference in our community,” said Sony Rego, Santa Fe Steakhouse Co-owner. “And if they don’t return, we hope they remember to give back and make a difference wherever they end up.”
The Santa Fe Wine Classic is scheduled for Friday, October 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Quinta Mazatlán, located at 600 Sunset Drive in McAllen. For tickets, contact the Chamber at 682-2871 or the Santa Fe Steakhouse at 630-2331.
