RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Western Athletic Conference announce on Tuesday that sophomore Samuel de Felipe Garcia of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s tennis team has been named WAC Men’s Singles Player of the Month.
De Felipe Garcia went undefeated in September on his way to picking up the Singles “A” Draw Championship at the Islander Opener.
De Felipe Garcia opened the tournament with a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Corpus Christi’s Kyohei Yamanaka before following with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Incarnate Word’s Sebastian Santibanez to advance to the finals.
In the finals, de Felipe Garcia opened the match with a 6-1 win over Corpus Christi’s Pascal Lorieul before winning 7-6 in the second set to secure the championship.
De Felipe Garcia and UTRGV will be back in action later this month when they compete at the ITA Regional Tournament in Waco from October 25-27.
