BROWNSVILLE, Texas â€“ The City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department announces that Sams Memorial Pool is currently closed due to necessary renovations and upgrades. The pool was discovered to be leaking a significant amount of water, prompting the city to call in a contractor on April 25, 2024, to initiate repairs.

During the initial repair process, another leak was detected while refilling the pool with water. This issue was promptly addressed at the Brownsville City Commission meeting, where a change order for the additional repairs was submitted and approved on May 21, 2024.

The approved change order outlines that the necessary repairs will be completed by the end of June 2024. In the meantime, all aquatic programs, including public swim, lap swimming, swimming lessons, and water aerobics will be temporarily relocated to Tony Gonzalez Pool, located at 34 Tony Gonzalez Dr.
