McALLEN, Texas – Keep McAllen Beautiful is hosting the Greatest American Cleanup and Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off on Saturday, April 11, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Hundreds of volunteers will be working to clean major thoroughfares and roadways, helping make McAllen shine for Earth Day, Arbor Day, and our nation’s upcoming 250th birthday celebration.
Drivers are urged to be alert: Volunteers will be wearing bright orange safety vests and working in groups along streets and highways. Please slow down, stay vigilant, and give our volunteers plenty of space as they pick up litter.

“McAllen thrives because of residents who care about our city. We ask drivers to help keep our volunteers safe as they take pride in making McAllen cleaner and more beautiful for everyone,” said Mayor Javier Villalobos.
If you’d like to join the effort, volunteers can check in at McAllen Municipal Park from 8–9 a.m., receive their supplies and cleanup map, travel to their assigned location by bus or car, return to the park for lunch and games, and earn four hours of community service for their participation.
This cleanup is part of Keep America Beautiful’s nationwide initiative to remove 25 billion pieces of litter and beautify 25,000 communities by July 4, 2026, in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Learn more and sign up to volunteer: Keep McAllen Beautiful – Volunteer
