EDINBURG, Texas – The Hidalgo County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, in collaboration with Pct. 4 Constable A “J.R.” Gaitan will host a ‘Safe Kids’ Injury Prevention event on September 25th from 6-8 p.m. at the Edinburg Activity Center located at Mark S. Pena Drive in Edinburg, Texas.
This event aims to provide injury prevention education for parents including ATV Safety; Bike Safety; Fire Safety; Car Seat Safety; Gun Safety; Online Safety; Swimming Safety; Head Injury Prevention; Suicide Prevention; and Child Abuse Prevention for youths of all ages.
“We want to provide resources and prevention education for parents to prevent injuries that can harm our children,” stated DA Terry Palacios. “We need to be proactive and prevent tragedies from impacting our families.”
“Our office has done extensive prevention education work with youths in our Young Hearts Matter Prevention campaign and this is another way for us to provide prevention resources to parents in any area that can cause an injury of a child,” said Rosie Martinez, Victims Unit Director.
The event will be hosted in collaboration with the City of Edinburg, DHR Level 1 Trauma Department; South Texas Health Systems Trauma & Critical Care Department; Driscoll’s Children’s Hospital; Regional Justice Center Medical Group; South Texas Health Systems Clinics; Hidalgo County Health & Human Services Department; Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council; Prevention Awareness Team of Hidalgo County; and United We Stand Texas.
In addition, we will have a free raffle for bikes for children and will give FREE bike helmets, bike lights, gun locks, child ID fingerprinting, concussion assessment screenings, and other goodies for kids. Bring your kids and come learn how to prevent injuries.
