In preparation for the 2026 McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Run on Saturday, January 17, 2026,the City of McAllen is advising motorists to expect temporary lane closures, brief traffic pauses, and limited full roadway closures along portions of the marathon route. To ensure runner safety, City departments will utilize flagging operations at signalized intersections and along the Marathon route to safely guide runners.
To protect runners and the traveling public, the Traffic Operations Department will implement full roadway closures at the following locations:
| • 29th Street — Expressway (I-2) to Business 83 |
| • Galveston Avenue — 29th Street to 23rd Street |
| • Main Street — Cedar Avenue to Business 83 |
All remaining portions of the marathon route will operate with lane closures only, allowing continued access to major roadways while the event is underway.
Additional streets and intersections experiencing traffic impacts include:
| • 23rd Street |
| • Houston Avenue |
| • 2nd Street (Houston Avenue to Violet Avenue) |
| • Violet Avenue |
| • 6th Street |
| • Zinnia Avenue |
| • Business 83 (Main Street to 29th Street) |
Runners will begin the 26.2-mile marathon at the McAllen Convention Center before traveling east on Galveston and Houston avenues, north on 2nd Street, west along Violet and Zinnia avenues, and southwest on Main Street and Business 83, before returning to the Convention Center for an additional loop along the original route.
Traffic operations for the event will be coordinated through a multi-departmental effort, with the Traffic Operations Department partnering with the McAllen Parks & Recreation Department, McAllen Police Department, and Public Works to staff intersections and manage traffic flow throughout the course.
Once again, Motorists are encouraged to plan for additional travel time or utilize alternate routes to avoid congestion during the event.
