Announcement of return to play date in July brings end to second eCup initiative

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC and Kembo Kibato have claimed the USL eCup: FIFA20 Edition, sitting on top of the overall standings with 3,000 points to take the title ahead of the second-place New York Red Bulls II (2,550pts) and third-place Saint Louis FC (1,700pts).

With the announcement of a provisional return to play date in the Championship and start date in League One, the United Soccer League today announced the completion of the tournament. This brings an end to the month-long competition which pitted a number of Championship and League One clubs against each other as national teams in a unique promotion and relegation style divisional bracket.

“I enjoyed the tournament, it was my first time streaming in front of people,” Kibato said. “Thanks to all the fans who watched and supported, I won it for you guys. Todos somos Toros unidos.”

The Toros claimed victory in the Division A bracket on two out of three occasions, while also winning the initial bracket for placement to give them maximum points as well. Their victory in the Division A Final against the Red Bulls II to conclude Week 4 proved decisive, as a Red Bulls II victory in that same game would have left New York on top of the standings to conclude the event.

“It was fantastic to be able to participate in this tournament while we were away from league play. We are proud of Kembo and his win for all of the people of the Rio Grande Valley!” Toros president Ron Patel added. “We can’t wait to get back to live soccer in a safe and enjoyable manner!”

The Championship has set a provisional return to play date of July 11. For more information regarding the league’s and RGVFC’s status, visit USLChampionship.com and RGVFC.com.
