EDINBURG, Texas – Smuggling continues in the Rio Grande Valley Sector, leading to the seizure of more than $319K worth of drugs.
On March 29, 2020, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station seized three bundles of marijuana near Escobares, Texas, after subjects were observed carrying the contraband near the Rio Grande. As agents responded, the subjects were seen returning to Mexico. A search of the area revealed three narcotic bundles weighing 138 pounds and worth an estimated value of over $110,200.00.
Later that evening, Rio Grande Valley Sector agents working in Rio Grande City, TX, observed five males making their way north from the Rio Grande. As agents approached, the five subjects ran back to Mexico but footprints led agents through dense brush where four bundles of marijuana were found. The bundles weighed over 200lbs, and have a value of more than $150K.
Early this morning, Fort Brown Station agents received a report of two subjects carrying bundles, crossing Brownie Street in Brownsville, Texas. When agents responded they located two abandoned bundles of marijuana. Subsequently, one subject was apprehended north of where the bundles were located. The subject and the two bundles were transported to the station for processing. The total weight of the marijuana was 74.6 pounds with a value of $59,680.00.
