EDINBURG, Texas – On Monday, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City (RGC) Border Patrol Station interdicted two narcotic loads that was valued at $460K.
Yesterday afternoon, RGC agents observed several subjects carrying bundles headed north from the Rio Grande. Aerial surveillance assets were requested from the Custom and Border Protection’s Office of Air and Marine to assist in the apprehension of the suspected narcotic smugglers. Air assets, agents, and a K-9 responded to the area. They located five bundles of marijuana abandoned in the brush south of La Grulla, Texas. The air support unit observed a drone guiding approximately 15 subjects away from where the narcotics were discovered. Agents apprehended ten illegal aliens, but after a thorough investigation, they determined they were not the same subjects that were transporting the narcotics. The marijuana seized weighed 229 pounds and was valued at over $183K.
Almost at the same time, an RGC agent requested the assistance of a suspicious vehicle near the river in Rio Grande City, Texas. A responding agent, observed from afar, a vehicle headed north at a high rate of speed. Soon after, agents reported the vehicle had crashed into a cinder block wall. Agents apprehended one male subject, uninjured, and discovered that the vehicle was loaded with bundles of marijuana. The Rio Grande City Police Department arrived on scene and documented the incident for property damage. Agents seized the vehicle and narcotics. The total weight of the marijuana was 346 pounds of marijuana and is worth almost $277K
All subjects apprehended were processed accordingly.
