EDINBURG – Judge Richard Gonzales has announced his candidacy for the 2020 Democratic primary election of the Texas House of Representatives, District 41.
“Texas faces some critical decisions in the next two years that will have a lasting impact on the Rio Grande Valley. I am committed to fight to ensure our region receives adequate funding, legislative representation and has a strong voice in our State’s decision making,” Gonzales said. “Public service and the love of my community have inspired me all my life and I am committed to working for and with people from all different backgrounds, occupations and political perspectives to ensure we get our fair share in Austin.”
An accomplished attorney, Gonzales is a self-motivated, independent professional who understands the workings of city government and is poised to make strategic decisions for District 41 and in the best interests of its constituents. Gonzales has worked as legal counsel for municipal government, and he is well-versed in the various legal aspects regarding municipal government, including open meetings laws, procurement laws, contracts, finances, management, and more. Gonzales will bring this knowledge and experience in government to most effectively represent the constituents of House District 41.
A life-long resident of the Rio Grande Valley, Gonzales received his political science degree from the University of Texas-Pan American and received his law degree from Texas Wesleyan University. Determined on using his education to make a difference at home, Gonzales began his career as a criminal prosecutor with the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office. Gonzales subsequently opened his own law firm upon ending his tenure with the DA’s office, where he practices to date. Gonzales is currently a Municipal Judge for the city of Edcouch, TX. He is a former board member of the Edinburg Boys and Girls Club and is a member of the Hidalgo County Bar Association and the Hidalgo County Young Lawyers Association. Gonzales lives in Edinburg, Texas and is an active member of El Buen Pastor Methodist Church in Edinburg.
