Edinburg, Texas – Edinburg attorney Richard Gonzales has announced that he is seeking to become Hidalgo County’s next Democratic Chairman. Focusing on the future of the party, he has centered his bid for leadership on five concepts: strengthening relationships, proving resources, opening doors, sharing practices, and transparency.
“As a proud Rio Grande Valley Democrat, I am ready to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities presented to us to make our Democratic party more inclusive: by continuously engaging our communities, developing local issue messaging, providing necessary toolkits to local candidates, clarifying the available strategies and resources, increase voter registration and help fundraise for the Democratic Party.” Gonzales said, “I believe this to be the best recipe for success.”
Committed to working for and with people from all different backgrounds, occupations and perspectives, Gonzales has created a detailed, people-centered platform to transform the party into an even more inclusive, successful organization. As an accomplished attorney, self- motivated, and independent professional, Gonzales is ready to lead the Democratic Party into the future. A life-long resident of the Rio Grande Valley, Gonzales received his political science degree from the University of Texas-Pan American and received his law degree from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law. Gonzales began his career as a criminal prosecutor with the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office. He subsequently went into private practice upon ending his tenure with the District Attorney’s Office. He is the former Municipal Judge for the city of Edcouch, Texas, and former board member of the Edinburg Boys and Girls Club. Currently Gonzales is a member of the Hidalgo County Bar Association and Hidalgo County Young Lawyers Association. Gonzales lives in Edinburg Texas and attends First United Methodist Church of McAllen. He is married to Kareena Garza Gonzales and has a daughter, Kamila.
“The job of Democratic Chair is about how we raise and expend resources, how we attract and conserve talent, and how we set strategy, not only for the next two years, but rather the next twenty years”, said Gonzales. “I am ready to do that in a way that activates local communities and gets people invested in our party.”
