McALLEN, Texas – McAllen City Leaders will be celebrating the opening of the newest city/school park – Morris/Perez Park with a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 22nd at 9:00 a.m. The McAllen Parks and Recreation Department with McAllen Independent School District had worked on a concept presented to the Joint School Board and City Commission. The City of McAllen Engineering Department assisted Parks and Rec. in this joint effort. Milnet Architectural Services were awarded the project and RG Enterprises was awarded the contract for Improvements.
The new park amenities include a restroom facility with adult changing table; decomposed granite trail with concrete curbs; Musco field lighting; benches, picnic tables; chess tables; landscaping, bike racks; entry arches and ADA walkway ramp from Perez Elementary School.
The total cost of the project is $1.4 M, which is under budget. Morris/Perez Park is officially opened to the public Monday through Sunday from dusk to 11pm.
