Former Viper was a part of RGV’s 2012-13 NBA D-League Championship squad
MCALLEN, Texas,January 12, 2015 – Rio Grande Valley Vipers General Manager Gianluca Pascucci today announced that the Vipers have acquired guard/forward Glen Rice, Jr. Additionally, the team waived Tristan Carey.
Rice (6’6”, 215, Georgia Tech) played with the Washington Wizards, where he averaged 2.7 ppg over the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. He was drafted 35th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2013 NBA Draft, before being traded that night to the Wizards.
Rice was a member of the Vipers’ 2012-13 NBA D-League Championship squad. He saw action in 42 games and averaged 13.0 ppg and 6.2 rpg. The Vipers selected Rice with the seventh pick in the fourth round of the 2012 NBA D-League Draft.
Rice played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets from 2009-12. During the 2011-12 season, he was the team’s leading scorer with 13.0 ppg.
This week the Vipers travel to Santa Cruz, Calif. to play in the annual NBA D-League Showcase. RGV’s first game is Friday, Jan. 16 at noon (CT) versus the Erie BayHawks. RGV’s second Showcase matchup is versus the Reno Bighorns Sunday, Jan. 18 at 9 p.m. (CT).
