EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC announced its 2023 USL Championship home opener. The Toros’ eighth season is set to kick off on Sunday, March 12 when the club welcomes Las Vegas Lights FC to H-E-B Park to kick off the new campaign.
The 2023 USL Championship season will feature a two-conference (East and West) competition format evenly split at 12 teams per conference. RGV FC remains in the Western Conference alongside Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, El Paso Locomotive FC, Las Vegas Lights FC, Monterey Bay Union F.C., New Mexico United, Oakland Roots SC, Orange County SC, Phoenix Rising FC, Sacramento Republic FC, San Antonio FC and San Diego Loyal SC.
Wilmer Cabrera returns as Head Coach and Sporting Director for the 2023 campaign, marking his third consecutive season at the helm, fourth overall since the club’s inaugural season in 2016. Cabrera has successfully led the Toros to playoff berths in 2016,2021 and most recently 2022; the Colombian national established a solid foundation in the offseason by retaining a club high 10 players.
