McAllen, TX- The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) is excited to announce the winners of its first community juried photograph exhibition of 2020, Pollinators in Action: RGV Community Photographs. Forty-five photographs of pollinators including bees and butterflies from the region were submitted by local photographers for this exhibit and after a community-wide online vote with over 3,000 votes received, the top 20 photographs have been selected for the museum exhibition set to open July 18.
The community was invited to submit photographs of local RGV pollinators, and the wide array of entries includes bees and butterflies such as Monarch, Great Swallowtail, Guava Skipper, Texan Crescent, Red Bordered Pixie, and White Peacock butterflies. Subjects were photographed across the region in backyards, ranches and local trails including National Butterfly Center and Quinta Mazatlan.
Top photographers include Virginia Mann, Ernesto Herrera, Hal Wallace, Jose Salazar, Oscar Cepeda, Christy Sanchez, Juan Manuel Flores, Jr., Rick Rodriguez, Marie Montalvo, Marlowe Munoz, George Villarreal, Trish Motheral, Reina Razo, Eryn Reddell Wingert, Michael Jackson, Billy Guerra, Bob Simpson, Lisa Margo, Lorena Malquinta, and Caleb Camacho. Each will have their photograph on display at the IMAS for an on-site exhibition from July 18 to September 27, 2020. All of the submitted photographs will also be featured in a permanent virtual exhibition on the IMAS website.
Pollinators in Action: RGV Community Photographs is planned by IMAS in conjunction with the new exhibition, Wild Bees, by prominent photographers Paula Sharp and Ross Eatman, on exhibit at the IMAS through October 18, 2020, in the Cardenas Gallery.
