Texas Border Business
Edinburg, Texas, June 4th – The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros were victorious 1-0 in the South Texas Derby at home against San Antonio FC. The Toros are now 2-0-1 against in-state rival San Antonio.
The first half started with the ball being shared amongst both teams without any clear shots at goal. The first clear attempt came in the 41st minute. Rio Grande Valley’s Kevin Garcia headed in a curling corner kick to give the Toros the 1-0 lead.
San Antonio FC started the half aiming to find the equalizer. San Antonio’s Danny Garcia had a shot at goal on the 48th minute, but Toros goalkeeper, Calle Brown, managed to save it. In the 60th minute, Rio Grande Valley’s Jose “Memo” Rodriguez had a chance to double the Toros’ lead but San Antonio’s Josh Ford had an amazing save. At the end of the game, the Toros were victorious 1-0.
The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros now travel to face Swope Park Rangers on Wednesday, June 8. The Toros cruised for a 4-1 win the last time the two teams face each other. The Toros host Oklahoma City Energy FC at UTRGV Soccer and Track Complex on Saturday, June 11.
