EDINBURG, May 6, 2016 – The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros will travel to face in state rival, San Antonio FC, on Saturday, May 7 at Toyota Field. This will be the first of four encounters between the Toros and San Antonio this season.
The Toros are returning on the road after suffering a 2-0 loss in their season home opener to Los Angeles Galaxy II at UTRGV Soccer and Track Complex on April 30. Jack McBean opened the scoring for LA after connecting a cross from a set piece. Ariel Lassiter doubled Galaxy II’s lead five minutes later.
San Antonio FC had a strong showing last week at home in their game versus Tulsa Roughnecks. Shawn Chin scored the first goal for San Antonio in the first half. Tulsa Roughnecks brought the game even with a Nfn Kaleemulah goal during the second half. However, San Antonio FC would get the win thanks to second half goals by Rafael Castillo and Jason Johnson.
After Saturday’s game, the RGV FC Toros and San Antonio FC will face each other again on May 25, June 4 and September 24. The Toros will be hosting Real Monarchs SLC next week on May 13 at UTRGV Soccer and Track Complex. That will be the second encounter between the two teams. The Toros came out on top the last time Real Monarchs SLC and the RGV FC Toros faced each other with a Jose Escalante goal.
