Edinburg, Texas– The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros prepare for Saturday night’s match against Swope Park Rangers on May 21. This will be the first encounter between the two teams who are playing their inaugural seasons.
The Toros will be playing their second of back-to-back home games. Rio Grande Valley will be seeking to get their first home win. In last week’s match, the RGV FC Toros drew 1-1 with Real Monarchs SLC. Real Monarchs’ Ricardo Velazco scored in the fifth minute via penalty to open the game. Mauro Manotas scored in 58th minute, the first home goal in the club’s history.
Swope Park Rangers comes off from defeating Tulsa Roughnecks on the road. After the game went scoreless in the first half, Ranger’s Tyler Pasher scored off a Daniel Salloi assist. Tulsa’s Sammy Ochoa drew the game even in the 78th minute. It didn’t take long for Swop Park Rangers to pull ahead once again. Two minutes later, in the 80th minute, Tyler Pasher scored again to give the Rangers the win.
After Saturday’s match against Swope Park Rangers, the Toros will travel to face San Antonio FC once again on the South Texas Derby. The two teams will play on Wednesday, May 25. In the first encounter between the two teams, the Toros defeated San Antonio 3-2 in a thrilling second half thanks to a Rob Lovejoy brace.
