Texas Border Business Portland, Oregon, April 8, 2016 – The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros captured their first win of the season and of the club’s history with a 2-0 victory over the Timbers 2. Bradley Bourgeois and Dzenan Catic would both score in the first half to secure that the Toros left Merlo Field with the three points. The RGV FC Toros controlled the possession of the game early on in the first half. Jose Escalante would have a great shot at goal at the 16th minute but, Timbers 2’s goalkeeper, Wade Hamilton, made an amazing save to keep the score level. However, Bradley Bourgeois would soon find the net in the 17th minute. Jose “Memo” Rodriguez would deliver a beautiful cross off a corner kick that connected with Bourgeois. Bourgeois’ powerful header gave the Toros’ their first goal in club history. It would only take the Toros 14 minutes to double their lead. Jose Escalante would break free from the defense before being fouled inside the penalty box. Dzenan Catic was the designated player to shoot the penalty kick. After placing the ball in the bottom left corner, the Toros celebrated their second goal of the season. The Toros kept playing with the same intensity in the second half and kept the possession of the ball throughout that half. Devin Perales had two great saves, one in each half, to keep the RGV FC Toros with a clean sheet. The Toros would end the game with 8 shots, 5 of which were shots on goal. The RGV FC Toros are know 1-1-0 and will hope to extend their winning streak when they visit Seattle Sounders FC 2 on Tuesday, April 12 at 9:30p.m.(CST). The Toros will visit Real Monarchs SC on April 12 before their home opener on April 30. |
