EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley FC (0-8-3) makes one more stop in the Alamo City on Saturday, September 5 as they face San Antonio FC (7-0-3). Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. CST and will be live on ESPN+.
Here are your three key points:
- There is no doubt that the Toros have had a difficult season thus far. The club continues to be winless and has tied the longest winless streak with 11 matches. The last time the Toros went winless for 11 matches was in early 2018. As they face a dangerous San Antonio squad, RGV FC needs to remain focused throughout 90+ minutes and finish all possible opportunities in order to earn the first three points of the season.
- RGV FC has added three players recently – Ian Hoffmann, Juan Carlos Azocarand Kyle Ihn. Hoffmann has made two appearances already for the club and the difference has been noticeable on the pitch. Ihn will be available for selection Saturday night. Azocar is pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa. He brings international experience which will add to the Toros attacking force to assist with the push to earn some wins. With Ben Willis out due to injury, Paul Blanchette has been the only keeper to stay under the goal aside from player-coach Ryan Coulter. Ihn will relieve Blanchette when needed to help recover for the remainder of the 2020 campaign.
- SAFC continues to be unbeaten this season, and the only one in the USL Championship, extending their streak to 10 matches. lead Group D, scoring 20 goals while conceding five and keeping six clean sheets. The overall record between both clubs for this 2020 season stands at 2-0-1. Luis Solignac leads with five goals for SAFC with two assists and 13 chances created. Cristian Parano has scored three, given three assists while creating 15 chances on the pitch. Matt Cardone has saved 13 shots in five matches while keeping three clean sheets.
